Trilio for Kubernetes 4.0: Backup and Recovery

Calling all OpenShift, Kubernetes and KubeVirt users!

Yesterday we announced the release of Trilio for Kubernetes 4.0 which introduced major functionality for Kubernetes and a major step forward towards further integration with OpenShift, providing you the capability to make backups and perform restores without leaving the Red Hat OpenShift Console, while adding continuous restore features for OpenShift Virtualization and KubeVirt users.

Red Hat OpenShift Console Integration

OpenShift Backup tab

Trilio for OpenShift is already recognized as best in class platform for Red Hat OpenShift but as we continue enhancing Trilio for Kubernetes we have added a focus in areas specifically for Red Hat that you won’t find with the other, generic, Kubernetes backup solutions. Today we announce a big step forward of OpenShift Administrators being able to perform backup and recovery directly from the OpenShift Console. Once you install the Trilio for Kubernetes 4.0 Operator, Trilio Backup option will appear in the OpenShift Console – allowing you to do backup and recovery of applications and virtual machine namespaces without directly using Trilio. Of course, performing more advanced actions is only a click away to launch the rich Trilio UI.

Red Hat OpenShift OLM Backup and Recovery

OpenShift Operator Backup

We did it! Correctly backing up and, more importantly, recovering OLM based Operators is hard – but our engineers were up to the challenge. With Trilio 4.0, users of OpenShift can now have the safety and security that Trilio can protect your Operators and their configuration knowing they can recover to the same cluster or any other cluster as part of disaster recovery.

Red Hat Advanced Cluster Management with Trilio

ACM policy to backup your applications in OpenShift

For users of Red Hat Advanced Cluster Management, Trilio provides ready to go Policies that allow central data protection governance. The provided Policies allow automatic installation of Trilio, and automated application and namespace backups.

Certified Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform Playbooks

Use Ansible to protect your OpenShift applications

Ansible is amazing. It allows users and administrators to perform repeatable actions from basic tasks as updating configuration files, to installation of complete OpenStack environments. And now you can use Red Hat Certified Ansible Playbooks by Trilio (Login required) to allow you to produce easy to use, repeatable data protection Playbooks – from automating application, Operator and namespace backups, to migrating data as part of Sovereign Cloud requirements.

All Kubernetes Distributions Supported!

Trilio is of course available across the board from the latest Upstream Kubernetes releases, to Rancher RKE and K3S, to OpenShift Container Platform, OpenShift SNO and Mirantis Kubernetes Engine. Whether you are running large clusters in two datacenters, or thousands at the edge, Trilio can effectively, securely and efficiently protect, backup and recover your workloads whether they are on-premises, air-gapped or public cloud environments – Trilio has you covered.

Security Improvements

Trilio is the most secure Kubernetes data protection tool in the industry

Trilio provides numerous features that make it easy to use, whether you’re an administrator or developer. To provide these features some Trilio Pods require privileged escalations and as such, to ensure Administrators are not relaxing security privileges or have to maintain separate quotas across all namespaces, Trilio installs into its own namespace and can be managed much more efficiently. That way any security and quota actions can now be controlled and limited to a single Trilio install namespace.

Continuous Restore for KubeVirt/OpenShift Virtualization VMs

Continuous Restore feature allows shorter recovery times for Kubernetes applications

Trilio’s Continuous Restore allows much shorter recovery times during Kubernetes and OpenShift Disaster Recovery. This unique feature pre-stages Persistent Volume snapshots on any number of target Kubernetes clusters. Even the storage classes can be different, allowing for hybrid-cloud failover! We have now extended this functionality for your KubeVirt and OpenShift Virtualization Virtual Machines too.

This means you can have warm disaster recovery failover sites with VM data ready to go in the event of a disaster!

Other Enhancements

Trilio now allows managing resources in the UI

For the Kubernetes Administrator, we have now provided the ability to tune the resource usage using the Trilio UI. Previously this has always been possible through the command line, but for those that prefer the UI, we have you covered!

Conclusion

Trilio for Kubernetes 4.0 is available now through Red Hat OperatorHub (just search for Trilio!) or as an installation through Helm.
